The Summer Learning Challenge
Keep your learning strong all summer long!
Practice math and reading in
June, July, and August by participating in
this year’s summer learning challenge.
Here’s how:
- Sign up and check out the blog each week this summer. epcsummer2016.blogspot.com
- Choose a goal level to work toward: Bronze, Silver, or Gold
- Track your progress toward your goal on this paper.
- Celebrate your place on the E. P. Clarke Summer Learning Wall of Fame in September!
Gold Level Learning
- 60+ hours of learning: 30 practice hours for math + 30 hours for reading
- Do 5 of the 8 learning challenges for math and 5 of 8 learning challenge activities for English language arts (ELA) throughout the summer.
- Participate in online discussions.
Silver Level Learning
- 45 hours of learning: 22.5 math practice hours + 22.5 reading hours
- Do 4 of the 8 learning challenges for math and 4 of 8 learning challenge activities for English language arts (ELA) throughout the summer.
- Participate in online discussions.
Bronze Level Learning
- 30 hours of learning: 15 math practice hours + 15 reading hours
- Do 3 of the 8 learning challenges for math and 3 of 8 learning challenge activities for English language arts (ELA) throughout the summer.
- Participate in online discussions
Be a learning champion!
You’ll earn your place on the wall of fame, a ticket to our summer learning celebration and a backpack medal, too!

to solve. Post it on the blog to share.
#7 Create your own math learning
challenge activity. Post it on the blog to
share with others.

#1 Use Raz Kids or Moby Max for
five hours of your practice time.
#2 Write a letter to a friend or relative
that has to be mailed. Address the
letter yourself.
#3 Keep a journal of special summer
memories.
#4 Read a favorite story to a neighbor
or relative.
#5 Participate in the public library’s
summer reading program.
#6 Create a story or book using an
electronic tool (see Symbaloo)
#7 Create your own reading learning
challenge activity. Post it on the blog
to share with others.
